National Service Scheme [NSS]:

There are two NSS units (107 & 108) in our college steered by two programme officers, RRC & YRC by respective co-ordinators aiming at developing the personality of the Students through. community services.

A ten-day NSS Special camp was organized at Paravai from 1st August to 10thAugust 2008, 98 students actively participated in the camp which provided the volunteers an opportunity to experience mutual learning and sharing. During the camp volunteers took part in various guest lecturers and group. discussions arranged on topics like Food Adulteration, Nutrition and Dietetics, AIDS awareness, Human Rights, Personality Development, Blood Donation, Traffic rules and regulations.

  1. A free vetnary camp was organized in association with Govt. vetnary doctors, cooperation for the benefit of the rural area at Paravai on 5th of August. Nearly 100 cattles were benefited by the camp.
  2. A free dental camp was conducted by the doctors of the Tooth zone, Samugasevai Iyakam, Madurai at Paravai on 7th of August. Nearly 500 people were treated in the dental camp.
  3. As an Eco-friendly activity, to save our mother earth and to know the values ofI1ature thirty tree saplings were planted in our campus on 20th June 2008. Hundred and Sixty tree saplings were planted by our N.S.S. volunteers at Paravai on 8th of August during the N.S.S. Camp. Saplings were donated by Tamil Nadu Forest Department.

NSS units readily render their service to visually challenged through scribe wI1ting, nearly 50 volunteers help 10 visually challenged students of Pillaimar Sangam, Hr. Sec. School, Sammattipuram, Madurai to appear for their Quarterly, Half- Yearly, Revision and Public exams. on a regular basis and 10 students serve as scribers for a teacher - student of Mangayarkarasi College of Education.

Blood Donation Camp

Blood Donation Camp was conducted in our campus on 28th July 2008 by NSS, RRC, YRC volunteers and Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, Madurai. 65 students donated 53 Units of blood. Our college was recognized and honoured with a shield on National Blood Donation Day the 15th October 2008. Certificates were awarded to the donors.

To create awareness among the public at large, volunteers also take part in rallies. On 29th August 2008, 100 volunteers from our college participated in a mammoth Anti- Tobacco Activist rally organized by National Service Scheme of MKU in association with Vasan Eye Care Hospital and Lions Club International Dist. 324-B3. The volunteers used banners and placards. Arounc1l1000 students from colleges of Madurai District took part in this rally.

Above all, celebrations of National and Religious Festivals and Commemoration of Significant Days also form part of the NSS activities. These celebrations and commemorations foster in the volunteers the sense of oneness, spirit of nationalism and concern for the fellow-being. It also taps their civic responsibility and eventually creates visible impact on the development process of the country.

Mrs.R.C.Shanthakumari and Mrs.R.Verramani, N.S.S. programme officers attended one day seminar on 13.10-2008 titled "Peace and Non-violence" organized by National Service Scheme and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth development, Sriperumpudur at Madurai Kamaraj University.

RRC creates awareness about HIV/AIDS among students and guides them to lead a healthy life

  1. Our college organized special awareness programme on 12th December 2008
  2. Mrs.B.NirmalaDevi (PLHIV), Jeyachitra (Transgender) and Mrs.Nalinapevi (Counsellor), Mrs.K.Akila (Blood Bank Counselor) were the resource persons briefed about AIDS and created a great awareness among the students. More than 200 students were benefited by participated in this awareness programme.
  3. The RRC, District Manager A.Palaniswamy conducted a 10 hour module programme in our college, on 17th and 18th Dec.2008. Around 50 students of all the departments participated in it.
  4. Our college conducted a skit competition of "The heading role of youth in the prevention of AIDS" on 16th February 2009. Students of all the departments actively took part in the competition. Prizes were awarded to the winners.

Youth Red Cross

YRC trains to render selfless service to their society. In a bid to prepare communities for emergencies and to nurture humanitarianism in the young women, the Youth Red Cross unit of Mangayarkarasi College undertakes umpteen tasks.

The unit tries to impart the significance of First Aid and Health and Hygiene to its members through various input sessions like Seminars and Awareness Programmes Organization of a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with NSS is the highlight of this academic year.

Consumer Club

Consumer Club was inaugurated on 16th February, 2009 by Mrs.V.Packialakshmi General Secretary, Federation of consumer Organization of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry (FEDCOT). The highlight of her inaugural address was the "a bill" for every purchase is a must for redressal activities. The aim of the club is to promote consumer awareness.

Through these social service organizations students are groomed to be responsible, civic sensed citizens helping themselves as well as the society.
